We regret to inform you that due to coronavirus outbreak, our masterclass has been cancelled.
In times of such unprecedented uncertainty that was the only decision we could make.
We do hope to organize the masterclass next year in July, as usual. We will keep you informed.
The special significance of the Master Class lies in its base: an outstanding orchestra that is known both in Hungary and abroad for its intensive manner of play, uniform playing culture, high professional and human motivation and that will be available to the participants of the Class practically during the entire course. The Master Class will not primarily be focused on improving technical skills but on acquiring deep knowledge, rested on understanding each minute detail of the pieces and the sheet music. Moreover, Gábor Hollerung will, during the Class, lay considerable emphasis on the most important functions of a conductor’s activity, the conductor’s necessary and unnecessary activity and the mechanisms of communicating with the orchestra. Some of the rehearsals will be held under the Class Leader’s direct leadership, accompanied by either a piano or the orchestra. The aim is that the most possible active participants of the Class should conduct as many as possible parts of the pieces and so expand their experience, based on their own or the others’ work. Each active participant may conduct in the concert. The Maestro will decide about the movements that will be conducted in the concert, and two days before the concert, i.e. on Friday afternoon and on Saturday everyone will only rehearse his/her own program. The participants will have to follow a schedule made by the Class Leader for the last rehearsals before the concert.
Following our practice from the previous years, the orchestra and the Maestro can choose a conductor at the end of the master course who will be invited to a concert of the orchestra next year. The Maestro will identify the invited conductor at the gala concert.

„To my dear conductor friends, As we may already have participated in hundreds of masterclasses, I sincerely recommend the Dohnanyi Academy with Maestro Gábor Hollerung and BDZ, simply because it IS one of a kind.
The insightful interpretation learning experience and wonderful working atmosphere with a super musical orchestra gave me a completely different view on how we should study Haydn, Dvorak and Bartok.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to attend this Academy in 2016, and to those who are going for the 2017 edition, I certainly believe that you will also find it as one of the most real learning experience of our life.”

„I’ve been to about 12 masterclasses now, and this is one of the best for learning about classical articulation – I have learned more about classical articulation in a week with the Maestro than perhaps my whole career prior – and Hungarian-specific phrasing traditions.
I feel like I’ve learned a lot from this masterclass…”
„The orchestra is one of the best I’ve worked with.”
„Gabor is a fantastic, patient, and always approachable teacher – a rarity in the business.”
